The Knight Whose Armour Didn't Squeak

Yesterday afternoon (after tea in Cranbrook) we went on to Appledore- on Romney Marsh. This, mainly, is the reason I wanted to take a look at it.

Milne's geography is a little out. There are no castles in Appledore and no hills to build them on- but the Grand Military Canal goes past the door and- until the creek silted up, as creeks do- it used to be a port.

In the Church I found this...



Not Sir Thomas Tom, I'm afraid, but some glorious royal personage.

Bet his armour squeaked!

The church was restored in the 1920s and I think he dates from then.

I think you're probably right. That's Canterbury cathedral in the background- where his tomb is.

There's a quantity or rather good 20th century glass in Appledore church.
