Imagine what it would be like if the BBC devoted as much time to philosophy as it does to cookery shows.

And now, in a change to the advertised programme, Raymond Blanc will be discussing how to live.

Having once been treated to a meal at the Manoir, I suspect Raymond Blanc has a pretty canny idea of how to live! :o)

He should share it with us.

I was watching him last night and did a reality check and thought, "I'm watching a camp Frenchman cook a fish- and this is entertainment?

Whilst I love cooking and am considered pretty good, indeed, I'm the granddaughter of a head cook, I find nothing about 'celebrity chefs',most of whom are not chefs but cooks and there's an important difference, entertaining unless it be the late and much lamented Jennifer Patterson whose hearty outlook on life and total lack of political correctness and dislike of food fascism I absolutely adored.

What if TV viewers cared as much for philosophy as they did for cooking?

I find it odd that a nation that cooks less and less should have such an appetite for cookery shows.

Ah, we'd be living in a very different world.

And there, I think, you answer your own query. Many people can't or won't cook and this provides a vicarious alternative.

I suppose.

I just can't get terribly excited about food I'm never going to eat.

Be thankful that you don't have a British equivalent of Honey Boo Boo. I hate reality tv.

I was filmed for a documentary once. Almost every shot was set up, rehearsed, repeated. What I was doing was acting. There was one scene where I had to carry a cup of tea into a room; I did it over and over again.

Thank goodness, no one is interested enough in my life or activities to want to film it. Though I must say that I'd rather watch paint dry for a month than spend one second of my life watching the obnoxious antics of Honey Boo Boo and her moronic tribe.
