Vanished

My mother has lost a hearing aid. This happens a lot. Only usually we find them again pretty quickly. This time she says she put it on her bedside table and it dropped off.  Shouldn't be difficult to locate, should it?  OK, things often bounce further than seems feasible, but there's still only a relatively small area of floor-space to search. Well I've been down on my stomach, I've moved furniture, I've done everything bar take the carpet up and there's no sign of it.

I think the fairies stole it away.

We have very active fairies in my little studio apartment. Important things go missing for days, only to show up in obvious places. There is no other explanation.

Ailz went into the room, told the fairies we appreciated the joke- and found the hearing aid almost immediately.

One day, the pipe that drained our hand-cranked washer went missing. After searching high and low, I gave up and said out loud, "Okay, ghosts. That was funny, but give it back now."

A moment later, I opened the medicine cabinet to grab an allergy pill and there was the pipe. Not a tiny thing--it required some effort and moving of vitamins to get it back out--and not a place we'd ever stored it, or considered storing it, or casually set it down.

Weirdo ghosts.

I guess they just like to remind us they're still around.
