Fun With Water

The overflow pipe kept on overflowing. I fiddled about in the roof space and elsewhere and did no good so we called in the plumber. He arrived first thing this morning.

We discovered in the process of fiddling about that turning the taps on downstairs takes all the water from the mains and is a crude but effective way of stopping the flow to the overflowing tank.  We couldn't find the stopcock to turn the mains off so we spent the night with the downstairs taps turned full on.

If we hadn't the water might have come over the top of the tank and down into our bedroom beneath.

I just hope the property isn't on a water meter yet? They're in the middle of doing Kent right now!

I'm not sure if we're on a meter or not. My mother doesn't know. We were looking last night but couldn't find one.

They're mostly under the little street stopcock covers on the pavement outside a house in urban areas- in more rural places, I'm not sure.
