Attendance Allowance

We had an official here yesterday morning to assess my mother for attendance allowance. In spite of his opening spiel about not keeping up appearances- "chuck Hyacinth Bucket out the window"- she did what most of us would do  and down-played her disability, so that we had to keep chipping in to correct her- "No, actually, you can't do that."

My father does that too. He can barely go from the house entrance to the car parked in front with his walker but when the doctor came to assess him for a disabled parking pass, he continued to say that he was perfectly able to walk for at least 10 minutes. My mother and I were grinding our teeth in frustration....

I believe I might do it too. Pride trumps commonsense.
