We watched the BBC's new Twilightish Philippa Gregory adaption as far as the first attempted rape, at which point my mother- who almost always sleeps through TV drama- woke up, laughed merrily as if to say, "You thought you could slip that past me, didn't you, you fools?"- and switched the TV off.

We switched over to volcanoes, then back to White Queen - missed the first attempted rape completely.

You didn't miss much - the history was poor, the costumes even worse. Just another "The Tudors". I took it off record myself.

Goodness that's mildly infuriating.

However, it was twaddle, if that's any consolation.

Did you turn it back on?

I just watched it on Teh Internets. The costuming sucked. Princess seams and pockets on a lady's gown? Give me a break. Also, I think they have 19c buildings standing in for 15c. There would never be that much glass on the ground floor, security risk.

Also...was Max Irons cast because he looks so much like Prince William? Also, Janet McTeer for the win. And little Richard has smoldering good looks, or appears to in the short glimpse we get of him. Yes, I think it will do. This period of history has been getting the "barest resemblance to history" treatment since Shakespeare and possibly before.

I thought it was dreadful. Volcanoes were a much better bet.

What I saw was disappointing in every department. The Middle Ages were not soberly coloured.

I'd already decided it was twaddle so I didn't really mind.

I thought it was rubbish. I hated how everything was bluey-grey. Maybe I've been reading too many Books of hours but I se the late Middle Ages as highly coloured to the point of gaudiness.

She always sleeps through TV drama, it's not an old-age thing; she's done it for as long as I can remember.
