High Art Of The Low Countries 3

The problem with talking for an hour about modern Dutch and Flemish art is there isn't any. OK, that's not entirely true because there's Van Gogh and Mondrian and Magritte and one or two others, but it's near enough- because those guys (as AGD never entirely made plain) were part of pan-European art movements that didn't have a lot to do with windmills and polders. The paucity of material meant we spent ten minutes looking at Delvaux- who is interesting but very, very minor- and almost as long on Tin Tin and how his creator once met Andy Warhol...

But I really loved the Mondrians.

Me too. He's one of the 20th century artists I really respect.

Not hapless. I rather enjoyed the programme. The thinness of the material allowed the presenter- Andrew Graham Dixon- to go wandering off the beaten track. Delvaux may be a minor artist but I enjoyed looking at his stuff.
