Finger Ends

You'd think it would be a big deal to chop the end of your finger off but it isn't- not these days. We took Dot to A&E and they stuck the fingertip back on, wrapped it up, put her arm in a sling and sent her home. This morning we took her to the fracture clinic where they reviewed the situation, told her she could dispense with the sling and discharged her into the care of the district nurses.

My grandfather removed the end of one of his fingers in an industrial accident a hundred years ago (give or take a decade.) No question then of sticking him back together. I asked him what he did with the redundant bit of himself and he said he put it out on the window sill for the birds.

I lost the top joint of the second finger on my left hand in a motorcycle accident a number of years back (thank you white van man) and the medics managed to re attach that successfully and it's with me yet! :o)

Remarkable what modern medicine can do!

Okay that's pretty great about the birds.

My grandpa was a character.

Not only practical, but kind.

It'd incredible what they can so these days.

Your grandfather sounds like quite a character.

He was a self-made business man- an interesting and sometimes self-contradictory mix of the coarse and the cultivated.

OW!!! and EEUW!! in equal measure, I think... Least you were all prepared to rescue the abandoned digit and all that. I would probably have passed out at the thought.

Dot has been very cheerful and brave. I've been impressed.

while slicing up vegetables with a very sharp knife, I cut off a large part of my thumb "pad." It was dangling by a thin bit of flesh. I wrapped it up tight in a bandaid after washing off the blood and it sealed up and healed. I was amazed. I didn't think it would reattach itself.

I have a funny lump there but it works fine.

I never thought of letting the birds have it.
