First Jessops went into administration, then HMV, now Blockbusters- all within a few days.

Cameras, CDs, DVDs- three things we no longer need.

That's something of a sweeping statement, and frankly, untrue.

Not everyone has access to online streaming, downloads, or can take photos on a smartphone. Some people do still buy DVDs, cameras, and CDs, even though they're probably laughed at for being in the stone age. Let the flaming commence, not sure I care.

I use a camera, but it's being borne in on me that I'm a dinosaur.

I don't suppose these things will disappear entirely- after all there are still people who buy vinyl...

I use cameras, both digital and roll but that's because I still take my photography very seriously.

I'm also unwilling, as a hi fi freak and classical music fan, to accept the crap quality of downloads and the truth is that they are still crap.

Some folks may be willing to accept third rate pics and sound- I'm not.

I use a digital camera, buy DVD's and CD's and like an old dinosaur, still buy vinyl. The demise of Jessops and Blockbuster seems to be concurrent with what has happened to HMV. Many people download,stream media and films, use a smart phone to take photos and use the Internet to buy physical products. Sad but that is the way things are going. Having said that i did buy some very cheap books from HMV today.

No, I don't think they'll disappear entirely- nothing ever does. There are still one or two people out there making daguerreotypes because they like the way they look. :)

Idk, I think people are still buying fancy digital cameras, because lots of phone cameras are quite crap, and people have really high standards for their photos these days. Not me personally, a phone camera is more than good enough for me, but Other People.

It's becoming a specialist thing. Yes, there'll continue to be a market for really good cameras but the cheap camera is being replaced by the phone.

My daughter - 14 years old - enjoys her Blackberry, Facebook, Youtube, etc. But what she wanted for Christmas was an SLR camera. She loves it.

Indeed. Some of us like to take photographs of a somewhat higher quality than is possible with most 'phones, or have a physical copy of a CD in case our computer dies, or not pay every single time we want to watch a movie legally.

I think there will always be poor lost technophobes trailing way behind the times, needing things that are not cutting edge... But like you say, it will be more of a niche market.

My phone camera is as good as the little point and shoot I have, but for serious photos, I like the DSLR.

Jessop's problem was people looking at stuff in their shop and then ordering the same product online for less.

LOL! I also still have a cassette player in the car -- and I play my iPod through it. You can get a cassette thing that has an iPod plug on one end and thus you can play an iPod through the car's speakers.
