Roy Orbison

I was watching a programme about Roy Orbison last night. Halfway through I realized I'd seen it before. No sweat. It's no hardship to spend an hour listening to that glorious voice. Someone said it was an opera voice- only sexy.

No hardship for us either. What a voice!

Yes indeed.

What was the programme? I LOVE Roy Orbison.

So does [livejournal.com profile] lblanchard. She even has a room in her house called the Orbizone.

It was called The Big O in Britain. It concentrated on his British tours and British friends

Rumors that I have a room in my house called the Orbizone are greatly overstated. The Orbizone is a state of mind. These days, though, I'm all Tommy Emmanuel All the Time. There are a couple of documentaries about him (edit: I mean Orbison, although there are also documentaries about Emmanuel).

To appreciate the full magnitude of the operatic voice, listen to Orbison singing Walk On, particularly the last passage:

And then listen to a reasonably young Luciano Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma, particularly the last passage:

I suspect that with only a little training Orbison could have been one of the great operatic tenors.

Laura, dear. I was teasing!

I think I might just take a trip to the Orbizone soon.

I know you were teasing. My reply was banter.

oh...well, see, the difference between the written word and being able to see your face.
