Yadda, Yadda, Yadda... Balzac
I printed off a list of all the titles in la Comedie Humaine so I can strike though the ones I've read with a magic marker. Hey, this is getting to be a bit like stamp collecting.
There are precisely 91
And I've read 19
Here's a round-up of the ones I've read since I last posted-
La Bourse: A sweet little story of young love, acutely observed.
La Grande Breteche: Strictly speaking this is a quarter of the novella entitled Autre Etude de Femme in which four friends swap stories at a dinner party. It's a quietly effective horror story, narrated by the Comedie's omnipresent good physician, Horace Bianchon. Poe may well have borrowed from it for his Cask of Amontillado.
Un Drame au Bord de la Mer : A highly strung young couple have a disquieting experience on the Breton coast.
