Heavy

We went shopping at Ikea yesterday afternoon and after that at Floorstogo and I was tramping round on unforgiving concrete and carrying heavy stuff and I'm not used to it.

At Floorstogo the female manager was helping us load the car with laminate flooring and she was carrying two packs where I could only carry one- confirmation, as if I needed it, that I'm getting to be an old bloke. In one way I'm happy to acknowledge it (because people don't expect as much of me as they once did) and in another... ah well...*sigh*.

The female manager has probably learned the knack of carrying awkward packages. I bought a mattress and box-springs, and the amazing mattress man carried in the heavy box-spring by just stretching out his arms and walking it in vertically! I think about him every time I try to turn the mattress and it falls on me as I maneuver it...

Oh, Tony, you are not yet an old bloke!

I can't wait to see the results of your house remodeling.

Being an 'old bloke' has its advantages, although I wouldn't exactly call you old. One of them is that people don't expect as much of you, and another is that you should no longer feel compelled to show off your strength.

And as Jackie said - the female manager probably has a knack with those packs - and if she doesn't, depending on how long she's had that job, she probably has developed 'laminate floor pack carrying muscles'.

Perhaps All this heaving and hoing will keep me young.

We made two trips to the tip today and two trips to Floorstogo!

There's probably a knack to it. Carrying things-especially unweildy things like packs of laminate flooring- is all about balance.

you should start doing some fitness stuff there pops. jogging or cycling or something. swimming is good as less stress on your arthritis. keep them old bones in shape ;)

i got a student about your age who does a marathon (maybe half-marathon) every sunday!! and grandpa coakley is probably still doing bench-presses in his basement every morning. no excuses, you know...

or- looked at another way- a woman carried more than you did? oh the SHAME!!!
