Alice's dog has never been to the sea before and has never swum before, but throw a ball into the water and he's after it, breasting the waves and doggy-paddling away as if he'd been doing it forever, coming out, shaking himself (stand well clear!) then asking for a repeat. Isn't Nature wonderful!
