Fading Away
We should never have trusted photographs...
No sooner had the technology been invented than people started looking at ways of doctoring images
Because we're artists, innit?
Propagandists, flim-flam merchants, magicians.
The ways in which a picture can be doctored are so are so many you could fill a book- and I'm sure somebody has.
And the new technologies make it ridiculously easy. Photoshop, AI...
And pretty much undectable in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing.
Henry Peach Robinson was a Victorian photographer with a nice- and honestly admitted- line in mucking about with photographs to create "Art". His work was much admired. This picture is called Fading Away, and shows a beautiful young lady dying beautifully. It was made by cutting and pasting five different negatives.
