At The Rising Of The Sun...

 We've been up in Leicester for a couple of days...

Staying at the Belmont. A higher grade of hotel than we're used to- with a deserved reputation for good food. The room wasn't desperately expensive but the food was.

This morning I took a stroll up the New Walk to Victoria Park. Leicester isn't reputed to be beautiful but this part of it is. In one corner of the park stands the memorial to the men of the Leicestershire Regiment. This was was my grandfather's regiment.  He went to war- turning his back on his Quaker heritage in the process-  and here am I, two generations later- a person who has chosen to be a Quaker- paying my respects. It felt as though something were clicking into place, with the encounter all the more meaningfull for being completely unplanned; I was just taking a stroll, open to guidance, and this is where I was led, The memorial arch is the work of Sir Edwin Lutyens- the greatest English architect of his era, designer of the London cenotaph and the Memorial to the Missing at Thiepval....
