You Just Don't Know

I watched a clip of the Dick Cavett Show in which Cavett asks Henry Fonda if he's ever played a villain and Fonda says, well, there was this Spaghetti Western I made once which was a success abroad but not in the States- and goes on to describe- with gusto- an opening sequence in which he and a band of owl hoots massacre a lovable settler family.

"And did this movie ever get made?" asks Cavett.

"Oh yeah," say Fonda.

And now, I guess, fifty years later or whatever it is, Frank in Once Upon A Time in The West is probably Fonda's best known role.

Fonda clearly enjoyed making the movie- and getting away from the image of righteous dude that his career had locked him into- but all the same regarded it as a bit of a curio.

Some people (I'm not one of them but they've got a good case) say OUATITW is the greatest movie ever made....

Just shows you never know what your legacy is going to be...
