En Route

We came over the Pennines by way of the Snake Pass- so called for the way it winds about as it passes over some of the highest and bleakest country in England. My brother-in-law used to make the trip twice in a day, commuting between Manchester and Sheffield. Put it this way, it's not something I'd choose to do.

And then we went through Sheffield. I lived there for five months in 1969- but I didn't recognise a thing- and if I hadn't known where we were I'd never have guessed. The city has changed and my memories have faded- and that's how it goes....
