A New Leonardo? This Time Quite Probably Yes.

Seems I was a little ahead of the curve there, writing about Leonardo on the day before scholars in Florence unveiled a statuette which they say is his only surviving work of sculpture. This isn't something out of granny's attic but a reattribution. The piece belongs to our very own V&A- who were under the impression it was by someone called Rossellino.

It's a virgin and child- only a step away from late Gothic- with a very naturalistic baby- who is smiling- and an charming young mother who is smiling too. It's a lovely thing- a masterpiece whoever made it- and a much more convincing addition to the oeuvre than anything else that has shown up lately.
