Hockney At The Whitworth
We were down in Manchester this morning and I managed to grab half an hour in the Whitworth. They're showing Hockney's Rake's Progress (from the early '60s) alongside Hogarth's. Hogarth rages; Hockney is sly and innocent and funny. In the same exhibition are a few items of Hockney's prodigious juvenilia- drawings, a landscape in oils and a marvellous print of the inside of a chip shop.
